Project Overal Goal
Our aim is to develop and demonstrate affordable, integrated, and replicable solutions for electrifying thermal energy demand in buildings. This includes technologies like Heat Pumps (HPs) that work alongside Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and energy storage systems. We want bring these integrated solutions at Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 6-8.
To ensure success, we will focus on gaining social acceptance and strictly following energy efficiency (EE) measures. This will help us promote sustainable and efficient energy use, paving the way for a strong decarbonisation pathway in the building sector.
Our holistic approach will tackle challenges at every stage of the building life cycle, from product manufacturing and energy solution design to construction, renovation, operation, and maintenance.
Specific Objectives:
#1
Develop solutions that minimise life-cycle environmental impact and enhance circularity while being cost-effective.
#2
Design and demonstrate innovative, integrated solutions for electrifying the thermal energy demand of buildings, with high replication potential across Europe.
#3
Provide solutions that combine energy efficiency (EE) measures with on-site or nearby RES production and electrochemical storage, while offering flexibility to contribute to power stability.
#4
Incorporate innovative and smart control techniques to optimise indoor thermal comfort and the performance of heating/cooling systems, utilising autonomous and remote control based on interoperable interfaces that allow for data collection, storage during operation, and communication with other systems (BEMS).
#5
Demonstrate the solutions in six real-life new construction and renovation projects.
#6
Ensure high replicability for new construction and renovation of buildings, especially residential ones, to facilitate the direct replacement of fossil fuel boilers.
#7
Support the growth of decarbonisation strategies for building transformation by building capacity through upskilling and reskilling activities, delivering guidance and recommendations, and implementing ambitious communication and dissemination actions in alignment with REPowerEU and Fit-for-55 to promote the demonstrated solutions and support their replication and exploitation.
