The University of Passau (UNI PASSAU) (www.uni-passau.de) has traditionally been playing a leading role in research related to smart grid, digitalization of the energy system, energy efficiency, self-organization, performance modelling, IT security, and further computer networking related topics. The University is now undertaking a comprehensive electrification and decarbonization process, focusing on retrofitting the Sports Center/Kindergarten and Mensa buildings and installing photovoltaic systems as a new primary energy source. By modernizing its energy infrastructure and leveraging advanced technologies, the University aims to minimize its carbon footprint, increase energy efficiency, and become a European benchmark for sustainable academic institutions

The chair of computer networks and communications, coordinating activities within this project, offers seminars and lecture series at the university that focus on the areas of energy efficiency, smart grids, energy informatics, security, trust & reputation, and network privacy. Their main responsibilities within MetaBuild are to perform replication actions by maximizing local photovoltaic consumption, utilizing waste heat, and implementing AI-based prediction analysis for enhanced grid flexibility and alignment with renewable energy production.
