The University of Zagreb (1669) is the oldest and biggest university in South-Eastern Europe. As a comprehensive public Central European university, University of Zagreb offers education and research in all scientific fields (arts, biomedicine, biotechnology, engineering, humanities, natural sciences and social sciences), as well as a broad spectrum of courses at all study levels, from undergraduate to postgraduate. With 29 faculties, the University of Zagreb is the flagship educational institution in the country and region, a place where more than 5,500 researchers and 70,000 students develop knowledge and acquire skills.

Founded in 1919, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture (UNIZAG-FSB) at the University of Zagreb stands as a prominent institution within the Republic of Croatia, renowned for its advancements in scientific research, educational skills, and expertise across various domains including mechanical engineering, naval architecture, aeronautical engineering, energy and emerging fields like mechatronics and robotics. UNIZAG-FSB excels in delivering top-tier engineering education, nurturing the next generation of engineers eager to thrive in high-tech and knowledge-driven industries.

In addition to theoretical knowledge, taught by highly qualified teachers from 14 departments and 42 chairs, practical knowledge is an important component of the education at the Faculty and it can be acquired both in 54 laboratories and through intensive collaboration with industry. The Faculty has approximately 500 staff. 350 of them are teaching and research staff from full professors to junior researchers and research assistants. There are now over 2,500 students enrolled in the study programs.
