Main Activities

Founded in 2000 under the Save II program of the European Commission, the Energy Agency of Plovdiv (EAP), Bulgaria, is devoted to promoting the efficient and sustainable use of energy and to expanding the use of renewable energy.

Energy Agency of Plovdiv is a science-based organization developing and implementing technical, environmental and social innovations in the field of EE&RES, energy efficient engineering solutions, advanced energy technologies and solutions. It carries out feasibility studies, energy and environmental analyses and energy investment projects identification, development and management. The EAP’s expertise covers deep energy, economic, and financial analysing, policy advice, project management, writing and promotion as well as consultancy for improving air quality and local energy systems (local authorities, private companies and citizens); RES application, including biomass to energy and bioeconomy; assistance for energy saving in public and residential buildings.

Its services are utilised by the public authorities, business communities, and consumers. It is a founder of the Association of Bulgarian Energy Agencies (АBEA) and a proud member of FEDARENE network.

Project Activity

The Energy Agency - Plovdiv employs researchers, experts and analysts, all of them united on the innovative international scientific expertise. More than 70 European projects under FP6/7, Intelligent Energy Europe, Interreg, Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe, LIFE and LIFE+ programmes, have been successfully implemented, as well as numerous national projects, including the OP Competitiveness of the Bulgarian Economy 2007-2013.

EAP has coordinated and led energy actions related to developing sustainable energy communities and concepts for positive energy blocks, piloting smart energy solutions (incl. BEMS, RES and battery storage, e-charging, etc.) and “energy neighbourhood” campaigning among the citizens to raise their knowledge on the sustainable energy alternatives. EAP has conducted technical feasibility studies for introducing advanced energy technologies in support of energy actions for establishing positive energy blocks/districts. EAP runs pilot and demo sites related to RES integration with buildings, grids and mobility facilities.
