The primary activity of our Front Runner #2, the Croatian pilot, led by HEP Toplinarstvo, with key partners Gradsko Stambeno Gospodarstvo Velika Gorica Doo (GSG), Grad Velika Gorica (GVG), Cirkularni Energetski Resursi Doo Za Projektiranje I Izgradnju Energetskih Postrojenja (CER), ENDEF, and Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture at the University of Zagreb, UNIZG within the META BUILD project, is the renovation of an existing oil-fired boiler room. This renovation involves installing a high-capacity heat pump, which will be connected to the district heating system of the city of Velika Gorica.
Field test drilling for groundwater exploration to support the heat pump operation commenced on December 11, 2024, at the Cibljanica boiler room in Velika Gorica.
Representatives from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture at the University of Zagreb were present at the event, along with partners from HEP Toplinarstvo, the City of Velika Gorica, Gradsko Stambeno Gospodarstvo Velika Gorica, and Circular Energy Resources.
This test well project is part of the broader goal of the META BUILD Horizon project, which aims to decarbonize the energy and buildings sector, traditionally dependent on fossil fuels. The results from the groundwater testing at the site are expected to play a crucial role in the further development and integration of the heat pump into Velika Gorica’s existing district heating system.
